Sheila Hicks Exhibition at the Textile Museum of Canada This month we have our annual trip to the Textile Museum of Canada, this time for a guided tour of the current exhibition, ‘Sheila Hicks: Material Voices’.
The exhibition is a retrospective of Sheila Hicks’ 50 year career as a prolific and influential fibre artist. Both large scale and intimate works will be on display, showing her masterful grasp of colour, texture, space and scale. Her practice draws upon global weaving traditions as well as the history of painting, sculpture, graphic design and architecture.
This event is for members only. Please arrive at 6:15pm, sign in at the desk, then meet upstairs outside the shop for a tour (6:30-7:30pm).
The Upper Canada Fibreshed is excited to present LandMade, a one-day event bringing local fibre farmers to the Gladstone Hotel and giving urban knitters, spinners, crocheters, weavers, felters, makers and artists the chance to discover fleeces, rovings and yarns direct from the farm. Eight farms that raise sheep, alpacas and mohair will be available to talk all things fibre, and to provide locally and sustainably raised materials to the natural fibre enthusiast. Join our knitting circle and start your very own Fibreshed Knitalong project. Or bring your needles, hooks, spindles and wheels and enjoy conversation and making over coffee, tea or wine at the Gladstone Hotel!
