For a week, the Royal Ontario Museum Textile Department is hosting Yuma Taru, a National Treasure of Taiwan who has been for the past decade reviving dyeing/spinning/weaving amongst aboriginal Taiwanese women (whose culture has been suppressed since Japanese occupation in early 1900s).
Yuma Taru is an amazing fibre artist. She and her 10 year old daughter, who is apprenticing, will be demonstrating in the Africa, Americas and Asia-Pacific gallery of the ROM this Sunday, October 29th from 2-4pm. Please pass this information on to anyone you know who may be interested.
